We recognise the importance of identifying the benefits of hydrotherapy, to enable physiotherapy experts to confidently support its inclusion in therapy and quality of life packages of care for clients.
Hydrotherapy is a well-established therapy medium that has been demonstrated to improve flexibility, promote balance, and enhance freedom of movement. It can also have the benefit of reducing pain and muscle spasm. All or some of these benefits may be achieved for a client and contribute to their recovery or maintain their optimal presentation.
NML can organise a specialist hydrotherapy assessment, tailored to individual clients, to be able to identify any benefits of a warm water setting in which to exercise, measuring the improvement gained above that, which can be expected from interventions on land.
A pre-assessment completed by an experienced neurological physiotherapist will record the particular limitations of the client, whether that be range of movement, balance, or function.
Relevant subjective and objective outcome measures will be selected and completion of these outcome measures, prior and post the short hydrotherapy intervention, will identify any benefits from this therapy medium.
Having clear evidence to identify the benefit of hydrotherapy in the future, enables an expert to confidently support its inclusion in their recommendations.
Conversely, a course may identify that hydrotherapy makes no real difference to a client, and if this is the case, provides clarity to the expert to concentrate on other more appropriate interventions.
A comprehensive report will be provided following the assessment, including recommendations around the suitability of future hydrotherapy intervention.
